For some, there is an intense fear of catching the herpes disease via sexual activities which has nothing to do with snakes.
A herpetophobiac runs in terror from the presentation of a snake.

"Herpes" is a viral infection that causes small painful blisters and inflammation, most commonly at the junction of skin and mucous membrane in the genitals [maybe from an infected sexual partner] or simply as a result of some minor bodily infection in the mouth, lip, or nose [having nothing to do with sex]. The term comes to us via Latin, ultimately from Greek herpein, meaning "to creep".

In its extreme condition, boredom may produce depression and hallucination. Monotony, or boredom, have been held responsible for anxieties that lead to vandalism, violence, educational and vocational terminations, marital unhappiness, and even suicide.

This term is incorrectly used as a reference to a fear of or an intense apprehension or hatred of homosexuality or homosexuals in general; which is correctly classified as homosexualphobia.
